Prosecutors dropped a rape charge against one of the Alexander brothers Wednesday morning in a case stemming from an alleged Miami Beach incident where the victim did not want to move forward.
Oren Alexander was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at his Miami Beach home on Oct. 25, 2021. The victim reported the assault to Miami Beach detectives in September 2024.
In court Wednesday morning, state prosecutor Natalie Snyder said the victim in the case was “satisfied” with Oren Alexander’s federal conviction.
In March, Oren, 38, his twin brother Alon, 38, and their older brother Tal, 39, were convicted in Manhattan federal court of all 10 counts related to sex trafficking, raping and drugging dozens of women across the country for nearly two decades. They are facing up to life in prison at their sentencing in August.
Federal Conviction and Ongoing Cases
After Wednesday’s hearing in Miami-Dade criminal court, Oren’s attorneys Joel Denaro and Edward O’Donnell IV told the Miami Herald the dismissed case was a win for Oren, who is still facing two other rape charges stemming from alleged incidents in Miami Beach.
Alon has been charged with Oren in one of the cases.
“We have known for months that she did not want to participate and be an accuser in this trial, so we’re not surprised and we’re pleased that it was finally dismissed, but this should have been done months ago.”
Prosecutors intend on proceeding with the two other rape cases against Oren and the case against Alon.
In court, Snyder said the brothers will be brought to a Miami jail after their federal sentencing to face trial for the South Florida cases. They are being held in the federal criminal detention center in Brooklyn.
Victim Did Not Want to Testify at Trial
In October, the defense accused prosecutors of not disclosing the victim’s wishes to not move forward with the case and shielding the victim from testifying in a deposition.
The lengthy motion includes snippets of a deposition of the victim’s friend, who testified the victim told her she was withdrawing her case.
“I withdrew my case; I don’t know why they reached out to you.”
For months, defense attorneys had been trying to depose the victim, who prosecutors said was unavailable because she lived abroad. She lives in Costa Rica, court records show.
Two Other Rape Cases
Oren is accused of raping a woman in Miami Beach in 2017.
He and Alon have also been charged with raping a woman at a New Year’s Eve party at Alon’s condo in Miami Beach in 2016.
For years, federal prosecutors say, Oren, Alon and Tal used their fame and wealth to lure women to their Miami Beach and New York homes and on trips to other cities, even out of the country.
Tal and Oren were star real estate brokers in New York, while Alon worked for his parents’ security firm.
The women, prosecutors say, were often drugged before they were raped.
During a hearing in New York federal court, a witness told the judge more than four dozen women whom prosecutors consider credible have come forward with allegations about the brothers.
The three brothers were arrested in Miami Beach on Dec. 11, 2024, by FBI agents and Miami Beach police.
Oren and Alon were arrested in their Miami Beach homes, while Tal was arrested at his parents’ house in Bal Harbor, where he was staying.
